Well, the news it out on the highly anticipated Apple reveal that occurred Tuesday in Silicon Valley. Apparently bigger IS better, but only as far as the iPhone 6 is concerned as the tech giant also unveils their first wearable computer.
Before we get into the details of the Apple Watch, let’s first have a look at the new features and sizes available for the iPhone 6. The device’s screen measures in at 4.7 inches, compared to the 4 inch screen of Apple’s previous model, the iPhone 5. The company didn’t stop there, however, now offering the iPhone 6 Plus at a whopping 5.5 inches, beating out the size of the Galaxy S5 by .4 of an inch. Despite the larger screen size, both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are thinner than their predecessors with 25 percent faster processing.
According the NY Times, the new phone release is Apple’s attempt to keep up with demand as consumers crave larger screens on their phones much like they do on their televisions. On the other hand (pun intended), Apple has also recognized public interest in wearable devices, and the Apple Watch is the company’s answer to compete with other similar tech on the market from Samsung, Pebble, and Sony.
According to an interview with Apple’s Chief Executive Timothy Cook, the company isn’t concerned about being behind in the watch game.
“For us, it’s never been about being first. It’s been about being the best,” said Cook. “And I think we just launched the Apple watch that is sort of in a category by itself that will redefine what people expect of products in the category.”
With apps developed and currently in development for the Apple Watch, one can only imagine the future possibilities for the device. Unfortunately, only time will tell if the initial hype will garner popularity for the product and turn into serious sales numbers.
