Monitoring and managing your health has just become a whole lot easier thanks to Apple’s new open source software program, CareKit.
Using CareKit’s new apps, you can now track your baseline health and any symptoms you’re experiencing, as well as measure how treatments are working. You can also share all of this information with your health care professional or your family members.
Because the new apps have health tracking and sharing built in, CareKit makes it easier than ever to manage your health utilizing your mobile device. This falls right in line with Apple’s latest plan to improve the services around the iPhone and iPad ecosystem utilizing new frameworks.
What are the new CareKit Apps?
Apple has released four apps thus far including, Glow Baby, Glow Nurture, One Drop, and Start. Each of the new apps specializes in a particular grouping of health care needs.
Glow Baby and Glow Nurture
As their names suggest, both of these apps are targeted for parent, prenatal, and infant healthcare, and allow you to track doctor appointments, health logs, feeding times and much more.
The One Drop app targets patients suffering from diabetes and allows them to track everything from glucose levels, to pain management, hunger and dizziness.
For patients suffering with depression, Start offers tracking for symptoms, goal implementation and progress reports, as well as pill reminders.
Because CareKit is open source, the modules currently available are just a glimpse of the endless app possibilities. Although many of the functions could have been built directly into an app, the new CareKit framework makes it much easier for programmers who have already begun to create new apps for those suffering with chronic conditions, patients recovering from surgery, and much more.
